Collection: Olive Oil from Turkiye (Turkey)

Research has shown that the motherland of olive tree is the province of Hatay in Turkiye, historically known as Antioch (where you can visit the first church in the history ever built!). The region hosts olive trees that are 1500 years old. The older the tree, the more mature the taste.

The lineage of the first olives is found on the border between Turkiye and Syria based on written tablets, olive pits, and wood fragments found in ancient tombs. Production of olive oil dates back to prehistoric times in Turkey.

Founded by the Ionians in the 10th century B.C., Klazomenia hosted olive oil production around 6th century B.C. In that case, Klazomenians may be the first ones that used the technology of a continuous production system with stone cylinders running around a spindle to crush olives. Klazomenia was surely the olive oil heaven for that time for producing and trading olive oil. Located at 38 km west of Izmir, Klazomenia and the restored olive oil workshop can be visited in Ural.

Turkish olive oil is usually smoother and has a more mild, buttery flavor than olive oils from other countries. For this reason, you can use Turkish olive oil for most of your cooking and baking needs since the flavor typically isn't too intense.
